About

The Martian Race are organised completely by volunteers and all proceeds are distributed to local charities that are carefully selected by the Woking Lions.  Last year over £13,500 was given to local charities, follow the link to find out which were the major beneficiaries. In 2024 it is ever more important with local authority cuts. When you register for our race or buy our cool branded limited edition merchandise you will directly benefit local charities.

The Martian Race is held on Horsell Common which  is privately owned common land on the western edge of Woking.  Almost half of the common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

We are very privileged to be able to run on the common and take our environmental responsibilities very seriously.  The routes are chosen to respect the flora and fauna that live there and we strive to minimise our impact.  Our races are always litter free and this year we have pledged to be free of single-use plastics.

The Woking Lions CIO is a UK registered charity ref number 1179975. The club directly assists people in need in the local Woking community both directly and through donations to other charity’s and community groups.

The club is part of Lions Clubs International, a service membership organisation of over 1.4 million members worldwide.
